SPOTLIGHT: TELUS Continues to Move the Needle for Pancreatic Cancer
This February, Pancreatic Cancer Canada is celebrating another national fundraising campaign with TELUS, our generous partner dedicated to creating a brighter future for pancreatic cancer patients and their families. 2020 marks the fifth year of their passionate support, which stems from a personal loss experienced by the whole TELUS family.
In 2016, TELUS lost one of its own to this disease. Joe Goodbaum was a beloved senior vice president who, over his 17 years at TELUS, was known as a warm, personable and respected leader. Just two months after diagnosis, Joe lost his fight to pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. His passing was felt at all levels of the company and in stores from coast to coast.
Ever since, TELUS has championed the advancement of pancreatic cancer research and support services. Staff across the country have eagerly taken up this cause, both in memory of Joe, and for Canadians in their communities that are facing this disease now or will be impacted by it in the future.
The TELUS matching campaign runs in stores across Canada until Feb. 29th.
“We feel strongly about our involvement with the pancreatic cancer awareness campaign in stores, shops and dealerships,” said Jamie McNicol, Vice-president, Channel Sales & Experience at TELUS. “Our aim is to continue to move the needle in getting this disease detected earlier and we hope with the help of TELUS Team members and our customers, we can do just that.”
Since 2016 TELUS has raised over $350,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Canada through in-store campaigns and special events. The 2019 TELUS matching campaign alone raised $100,000 for pancreatic cancer research, and their sights for this year are just as high.
Throughout the month of February, TELUS will again match all donations to Pancreatic Cancer Canada made in-store up to $25,000. New this year, TELUS has brought Samsung to join the fight against this disease. During the month of February Samsung will be donating $5 per new device sold at TELUS stores to a maximum of $25,000. Additionally, if you upgrade your device in store this month you can choose to donate any residual trade-in value to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.
“We are so grateful to TELUS that the fight against pancreatic cancer continues to be a cause they champion so passionately year over year,” said Michelle Capobianco, Chief Executive Officer of Pancreatic Cancer Canada. “It is personal to them, just as it is personal to thousands of Canadians from coast to coast. They are a true partner with us in our efforts to raise the rate of survival.”
To recap, here are all the ways you can support Pancreatic Cancer Canada this month at TELUS stores across Canada:
- Make a donation in-store and TELUS will match it to a maximum of $25,000
- Samsung will donate $5 per new device sold in February to a maximum of $25,000
