Host a Fundraiser on Social Media

Creating a Facebook or Instagram fundraiser is an easy and meaningful way to support Canadians impacted by pancreatic cancer. Your efforts will directly contribute to advancing survival rates and providing specialized services for patients and caregivers. No matter your fundraising goal, every dollar raised helps us continue our vital work. 

How to create your Facebook fundraiser

  • Login to Facebook.
  • Navigate to the ‘Fundraiser’ section on the left-hand side of your Facebook homepage, or visit facebook.com/fundraisers.
  • Select the ‘Raise Money’ button to start setting up your fundraiser.
  • Type in ‘Pancreatic Cancer Canada’ into the search bar and select it from the list.
  • Set your fundraising goal, as well as the start and end dates for your fundraiser.
  • Add a heartfelt description explaining why you’re fundraising in support of PCC. Share why our mission is important to you, and how contributions will make an impact on pancreatic cancer survival rates.
  • Review the details of your fundraiser, then hit ‘Create’ to publish it.

Spread the word

After setting up your fundraiser, share it on your Facebook feed and encourage friends and family to contribute.
Use the ‘Invite Friends’ feature to notify your connections directly.

You can use any of the below images as your Facebook fundraiser cover image during the setup process. Simply select the image, right-click, and choose “Save Image As”.

How to create your Instagram fundraiser

  • Login to your Instagram account.
  • On your profile page, tap the “+” icon in the top right corner and select ‘Fundraiser’.
  • Type in ‘Pancreatic Cancer Canada’ into the search bar and select it from the list.
  • Set your fundraising goal.
  • Select your image and write heartfelt description explaining why you’re fundraising in support of PCC. Share why our mission is important to you, and how contributions will make an impact on pancreatic cancer survival rates.
  • Review the details of your fundraiser, and click “Create Fundraiser” to make it live on your Instagram profile.

Note: Fundraisers on Instagram automatically end after 30 days. To extend it:

  • On Instagram, tap to open the fundraiser you wish to extend.
  • Tap more actions in the top right corner.
  • Tap Extend fundraiser.

Share with your followers

After creating your fundraiser, you can share it through the Instagram Stories feature, or add it to a Post by selecting the ‘Add Fundraiser’ option before publishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does Facebook/Instagram get a percentage of donations?
    As of October 31, 2023, Meta no longer covers donation payment processing fees. All donations will now incur a payment processing fee from a third-party payment processing partner — PayPal Giving Fund. Donors will have the option to increase their donations to cover fees.   • Will my donors receive a tax receipt for their donations?
    PayPal Giving Fund should email donors their receipt. Contact PayPal Giving Fund for any concerns regarding missing or lost receipts.
  • Can people without a Facebook or Instagram account make a donation to my fundraiser?
    There are two options for people without a Facebook or Instagram account to donate:
    • You can have your friend send you money directly, and then you can donate on their behalf on Facebook/Instagram. If you are the one inputting a donation, Facebook/Instagram will show the donation under your name and the tax receipt will be issued in your name.
    • You can have your friend make the donation directly on the Pancreatic Cancer Canada website. This will ensure your friend gets a tax receipt in their name. Please note that any donations made on the PCC website will not be reflected in your fundraising total on Facebook/Instagram.
